THE WHAT? South Korea’s Coupang has announced that it is set to extend its reach to Southeast Asia via a logistics base in Taiwan, according to a report published by Pulse News.
THE DETAILS The e-commerce giant has partnered with a local logistics company and secured a new facility in the Southeast Asian country to enable it to offer its flagship ‘rocket delivery’ service there and to the wider region.
THE WHY? Having tested the market with a pilot earlier this year, Coupang is hoping to carve out a slice of the fast-growing Taiwanese e-commerce channel, which saw 25 percent yoy growth for 2021, accounting for more than 10 percent of the country’s retail market. What’s more, Korean products are popular among Taiwanese shoppers.
