Estee Lauder unveils collab with Indian designer Sabyasachi Mukherjee

THE WHAT? The Estee Lauder Companies’ signature brand has teamed up with Indian bridalwear designer Sabyasachi Mukherjee to create a limited edition line of lipsticks; a launch that may well tease a full-blown beauty offer for the fashion brand.

THE DETAILS The 10-shade strong collection of matt and ultra matt lipsticks are packaged in black lacquer cases with 24-karat gold-plated accents featuring an engraving of Sabyasachi’s trademark tiger, according to a report published by Harpers Bazaar.

THE WHY? Having struggled from its over-reliance on the Chinese market post-pandemic, Lauder is keen to diversify, building its popularity in growth markets. Sabyasachi, meanwhile, is keen to expand into beauty. The designer told Harpers Bazaar, “In a country whose idea of beauty and wellness has been celebrated over centuries, I find it shocking that we haven’t created a global luxury beauty brand. I intend to change this narrative; I believe our time has come.”
