Boots No 7 maker to close Nottingham factory; hundreds of jobs at risk

THE WHAT? The manufacturer of Boots No 7, Fareva, has initiated a consultation with staff at its Nottingham plant, according to a report published by BBC News. The cosmetics manufacturer is considering transferring all production to its other site in Wales.

THE DETAILS Some 150 new roles will be created at the Pontyclun site but hundreds face redundancy in Nottingham, the BBC reports. Production is slated to continue until early 2024. Fareva’s product testing service, research and development, commercial and procurement will continue to be based in Beeston.

THE WHY? The French owner of Boots’ contract manufacturer said that loss of business as a result of Covid and political unrest in Europe has led to spare capacity at its sites.
