THE WHAT? Ahead of Stockholm+50, experiential artist John Munro unveiled a major digital art installation titled 50/50. Created in partnership with the UN Science-Policy-Business Forum, and art patron Jonathan Lett, the artwork was displayed between June 1 and 3 in Stockholm’s Kungstradgarden.

THE DETAILS The work featured an audio composition by sound artist Giovanni Agusta and Munro’s digital ‘living’ virtual landscapes and sculptural abstracted forms as a canvas for datasets that illustrate the achievements and positive impact of the UN Environment Programme in Key Biodiversity Areas over the past five decades.

THE WHY? Inger Andresen, Executive Director of the UN Environment Programme (UNEP), commented, “We cannot overestimate the power of art, music, and culture to bring to life the harm that we are doing to our natural environment and inspire action to reimagine our relationship with nature. 50/50 by John Munro uses accurate planetary datasets provided by UN scientists to create a message of hope. It is art meets science. And a powerful call for action.”
