New Zealand poised to become first country to ban PFAS in cosmetics

THE WHAT? New Zealand’s Environmental Protection Authority has announced a ban on forever chemicals in cosmetics that will come into force by 2026, potentially making the country the first to outlaw PFAS.

THE DETAILS According to a report published by The Guardian, the agency will also text for background levels of PFAS in the environment and phase out fire-fighting foam. It will work with the cosmetics industry to manage the transition.

THE WHY? The EPA said that the ban was designed ‘to protect people and the environment’ from the chemicals, per The Guardian.
