THE WHAT? In response to China’s new registration scheme for foreign beauty products, France’s Foreign Minister, Bruno Le Maire is set to meet with Chinese officials in the hope of thrashing out a mutually acceptable alternative, according to a report published by Bloomberg.
THE DETAILS Le Maire is hoping to agree a common standard for safety and efficacy claims to govern the sale of French beauty products in China, among other objectives.
THE WHY? France objected to China’s updated registration process, believing it to be a threat to brands’ intellectual property due to the requirement to supply wide-ranging data detailing everything from the sourcing of raw materials to the manufacturing process.
