THE WHAT? Kim Kardashian’s recently launched skin care brand has hit a bump in the road after Cyndie Lunsford filed a lawsuit accusing the reality TV star of trademark infringement over the name SKKN by Kim, according to a report published by E! Entertainment.
THE DETAILS The lawsuit details Lunsford’s use of the name SKKN+ in both Washington and New York since 2018 as well as via the skknplus.com domain name. Further Lunsford claims that its Beauty Concepts parent company filed a trademark application for the name two days before the Coty-owned skin care brand, and contacted the same to request that they drop the use of a mark ‘incorporating the most significant elements of Beauty Concepts’ mark’.
THE WHY? Kardashian lawyer Michael Rhodes told E!, “We think the case is less about the law of trademarks and more about trying to leverage a settlement by threatening to harm Ms Kardashian’s name and reputation. That’s not going to work and we look forward to presenting our case in court.”
