EU Nature Restoration Regulation passes by a whisker

THE WHAT? The European Union Council has passed the Nature Restoration Regulation by a small majority. The new rules, which are effective immediately, provide for all terrestrial, lake, marine and river habitats in poor condition to be restored to 30 percent by 2030.

THE DETAILS According to a report published by EU News, Member States will have to submit a national plan to the European Commission, as well as monitor and report on their progress.

THE WHY?  Terry Reintke, President of the Greens in the European Parliament, reveals, per Euro News, “Healthy ecosystems are essential for climate, biodiversity, and agriculture. This law is critical for the EU to achieve the Paris climate goal, and it is now important that EU member states fully implement it.”
