Chinese police seize counterfeit cosmetics worth US$120 million

THE WHAT? Chinese police have confiscated a stash of fake beauty products valued at approximately US$120 million. The authorities uncovered the stash during a series of raids in Taizhou, with more than 1,200 boxes seized.

THE DETAILS According to a report published by Reuters, the copied cosmetics duped luxury brands such as Chanel, Christian Dior, Lancome and Estee Lauder. Police launched their investigation after receiving reports of fake Amway products being sold online last year.

THE WHY? The Chinese authorities have waged war against counterfeits, with some 170,000 IP infringement cases opened in 2023 and 20,000 suspects arrested, Reuters reports.
